Quick summary
You can delete your Drift Hockey account at any time from inside the app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. Most personal data is removed immediately; a small set of records is retained for the limited periods described below to meet legal, tax, and child-safety obligations.
How to delete your account
From the web app
- Sign in at app.drifthockey.com.
- Open your Profile and scroll to the Danger Zone section.
- Tap Delete Account, type DELETE to confirm, then submit.
From the iOS or Android app
- Open the Drift Hockey app and sign in.
- Tap your profile avatar to open the profile menu.
- Tap Delete Account, type DELETE to confirm, then submit.
Children under 13 (managed accounts)
Per COPPA, a child cannot delete their own account. The parent or legal guardian who manages the child account signs in to their own account, opens the linked child from their Profile page (web) or from the profile menu → Managed Accounts (mobile), and taps Delete Account on the child’s page. See our Children's Privacy Policy.
Can't sign in?
Email privacy@drifthockey.com from the address on the account. We verify ownership before processing and complete deletion within 30 days.
What is deleted immediately
- Profile information (name, photo, date of birth, email, phone, guardian relationships).
- Direct messages you sent (replaced with a "Message deleted" placeholder in other participants' threads).
- Files you uploaded (avatars, video uploads, message attachments).
- Roster entries, attendance records, lineups, and coaching notes you authored.
- Notification preferences, push tokens, and active sessions.
- Stripe customer reference (subscription history is retained per tax law — see below).
What we retain and for how long
A minimal set of records is retained for the periods below. Access is restricted to staff with a documented need, and the data is purged on schedule.
- Encrypted backups: up to 90 days, on a rolling basis.
- Authentication and security logs: 12 months from generation.
- Parental-consent records (COPPA audit): 3 years after consent withdrawal or account deletion.
- Trust & Safety reports involving the account: 7 years from report date.
- Billing and tax records (US IRS), including Drift Sessions booking and payment records: 7 years.
Drift Sessions registration answers
Answers to an organization's registration questions, including any optional health or medical notes, belong to the organization running the program. They are deleted when the organization deletes the program's records or closes its account. You can ask the organization to delete them at any time. If it does not respond, contact us and we will help.
What we cannot delete
- Messages you sent that other people received — the message content is replaced with a placeholder, but it cannot be removed from copies on other recipients' devices or in their own message history.
- Team-owned content created on a club's behalf (events, practice plans, statistics) — ownership transfers to the club so the team's records remain intact.
- Anonymized aggregate analytics that no longer identify you.
Subscriptions and billing
- Cancel any active subscription before deleting your account. On the web, go to Profile → Billing. On iOS or Android, manage subscriptions through your App Store or Google Play account.
- Deleting your Drift Hockey account does not automatically cancel subscriptions billed by Apple or Google.
- Refunds for App Store or Google Play purchases must be requested through Apple or Google directly — we cannot process them.
What happens after deletion
Account deletion is permanent. We cannot restore a deleted account, its data, or its history. If you change your mind, you can create a new account at any time using the same email address (subject to our standard signup rules, including age verification).
Children's accounts
Parents and legal guardians may delete a managed child account at any time from their own Profile. We will also honor written parental requests sent to privacy@drifthockey.com. For full details on how we handle children's data, see our Children's Privacy Policy.
